IMDMC Advocacy Coverage Committee

To all IMDMC members,

As co-chair of the IMDMC advocacy committee, it is my pleasure to announce that the Board of Directors has authorized the formation of a new advocacy subcommittee.  This new subcommittee will be charged with developing a policy position that allows for quicker Medicare coverage.  A group of companies has come together to propose the formation of this committee, and drafted a policy outline to describe the direction they would like to go.  The Board of Directors has approved that direction.  Copies of this policy outline are available to members by calling IMDMC at 317-951-1388.

This new subcommittee, called the Coverage Committee, will be responsible for refining this analysis and then developing and executing an advocacy strategy to support its adoption.  For those of you who may not have participated in an IMDMC advocacy subcommittee before, let me explain briefly how it works.

All IMDMC member companies are eligible to join.  Those companies that join get to vote on the matters that come before the subcommittee.  Those matters include, as outlined above, refining the policy position, developing the advocacy strategy and overseeing the advocacy.  The subcommittee develops its own budget for pursuing these activities, and then each company on the subcommittee undertakes to pay its proportionate share of the subcommittee expenses.  While it will be up to the subcommittee to decide on the budget, past projects that are similar in nature have ended up costing anywhere from $2000 to $4000 per month per company.  Obviously, the exact amount depends on the budget the subcommittee sets and the number of companies participating.

If your company would like to serve on the subcommittee, please contact the IMDMC.  If you simply have questions, those too are welcome.
